Writing Exercises

It’s Friday, but that doesn’t mean you get to lie down on the job!  If you are a writer, you need to use every ounce of writing muscle you have throughout the week at least (and if you just can’t stand it, then write on weekends).

But what if your WIP is fizzling out and you need something to do to help you get those creative juices flowing?  What if you just can’t think of anything else to write in chapter 22 and even though you’ve outlined it, you just don’t like where it’s going?

Time to write some short fiction.

There are a few ways to do this:

1.  Click on over to this plot generator and write about whatever it gives you to write about.

2.  If you have an iPhone or iPad or some other Apple gadget, you can get this handy app that will get your brain churning out a few ideas. (It’s only .99 cents!)

3.  For you fantasy/sci-fi writers like me, there are tons of websites out there for role-playing gamers that offer adventure seeds that can turn in to intriguing stories.

A few of these are:

  1. The Arcana Wiki
  2. 100 DND Adventure Ideas
  3. Science Fiction Adventure Hooks

Once you find something to write about, then plow through and hammer out something to get your creative juices flowing again.  I plan to do this today, and will post the story I wrote as a Flash Fiction Friday feature.

Off I go.
